Gonadopathology in Radix quadrasi exposed to pesticides malathion and carbofuran: ultrastructure studies

Two-week chronic exposure of two-week-old and sexually mature Radix quadrasi at 250, 500, and 1000 ppm of pesticides resulted to cytomorphologic aberrations that included pycnotic primary gametes and spermatids with contorted nuclei. Unique to snails that were treated at embryonic stage was the diminution of primary spermatocytes particularly those dosed with 500 and 1000 ppm. Snails exposed to 250 and 500 ppm at sexual maturity exhibited paucity of spermatids and oocytes. Massive lipid infiltration and intercellular myelin bodies were observed on those treated with 1000 ppm pesticides
