A total of 89 potato clones were evaluated in 4-hill, 10-hill and 30-hill plots at high elevation at BSU [Benguet State University], La Trinidad, Benguet [Philippines] while 209 clones were evaluated at low elevation at CVLMROS [Cagayan Valley Lowland Marine Research and Outreach Station, Department of Agriculture, Iguig, Cagayan, Philippines]. The high elevation evaluation resulted in the selection of 31 clones based on yield potential and desirable tuber characteristics. Four clones yielded more than 1 kg per plant in the four-hill plot. CIP 385070.1 showed consistent performance across seasons as it was selected as promising from 1989 to 1993. Clones from TPS progenies involving PPC 4 and NYJ 327 as parents were also noted to be among those consistently selected. Twenty-one clones were selected out of 209 evaluated under low elevation condition at the CVLMROS, Iguig, Cagayan. The over-all yield level was low (the highest yield was only 530 g/plant). There was a reduction in the yield level from 4-hill plot to 30-hill plot in both trials, suggesting a need to assess the present procedure of using the harvested tubers as planting materials for next season's trial
