Influence of surface roughness and moisture content on friction of wheat grain

The friction coefficient was strongly influenced by the roughness of the sliding plate. In the case of smooth plate the friction resistance originates from adhesive interaction between the seed coat and the plate. Increasing roughness of the sliding surface results in the increase of the contribution of deformational forces to the total tangential force. Significant increase of the friction coefficient with the increase of grain moisture content was observed above 13 percent level of grain moisture content. The moisture content of the grain acts mainly through the change of elasticity and strength of the seed coat
