Oxygen stresses were applied in three stages of spring barley grown in pots filled with a brown loess soil at 3 bulk densities. Oxygen levels were differentiated by adjusting soil moisture tension to 20-80, 2-5 and 0 kPa for a period of 2 weeks. The plant available Mn as measured by 1N CH3COONH4 and by A-EUF extraction was inversely proportional to soil aeration status. A decrease of soil aeration and the resulting increase of plant available Mn in the soil caused a significant increase of Mn content in barley at all examined growth stages
