The mission, structure and activities of the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information for Agriculture (ISTIA) in Nitra are mentioned. The mission is information support for agricultural sector in the Slovak Republic in the greatest possible completeness. ISTIA uses Supertyper LAN network which allows the automatization of all library activities and building of databanks. Among ISTIA activities are: dissemination of available world information on CD-ROM media; realization of the project of integrated information system in agriculture; on-line access to bibliographic databases of the Slovak National Library in Martin; on-line access to international net INTERNET through SANET (Slovak Academic Network). ISTIA Nitra is not a traditional library with a duty to preserve the whole collection of agricultural publications. The purpose of the Institute is to provide the access to all available information for users and to process these pieces of information according to users requirements.
