[Potassium fertilization under saline conditions]
1991
Zaidan, A. (Tishreen Univ., Latakia (Syria). Faculty of Agriculture)
This study was conducted to show the effect of different K levels on plant growth and composition under changeable of salts in the media. Sorghum plants were grown under six levels of salts, electrical coductivity (EC) ranged between 4-16, and three levels of K were present. The study showed that plants responded well to higher levels of K when applied at early stages of growth (before flowering) but not at later stages (after flowering). Also it was shown that K fertilization under salin conditions should be higher than at normal conditions to suppress the competition effect of salinity factors and make it easier for plant to get its need of K from the saline media. Effect of salt and K levels on Na, Ca and Mg content of tissues was also presented.
