Status on fisheries and resources of swimming crab, Portunus pelagicus (Linnaeus), in the Gulf of Thailand

Swimming crabs are found abundant at 10-20 meters depth in sandy or muddy sand substratum. The suitable salinity and temperature are 20-32 ppt. and 20-30 deg Celsius respectively. First mature sizes of male and female are 6.5 and 8.6 cm. of carapace width. The maximum sustainable yield of the swimming crab in the Gulf of Thailand was estimated to be about 21,000 metric tons.
