Prophylactic efficacy of long acting oxytetracycline when given to sows within 24 hours prior to farrowing for preventing MMA syndrome was evaluated. Using 79 of 2 crossbred sows (Large White x Landrace) raised under the same management condition at V.P. farm, Nakorn Pathom. Forty-two sows were treated intramuscularly with 4 gm. (20 ml.) long acting oxytetracycline into 2 sites while another 37 sows served as controls. Observation of MMA syndrome occurred 10.8 % (4/37) in controls while in the treated animals such condition did not occur.
