This experiment was a comparative study of the nutritive values between glutinous and non-glutinous rice straw. Glutinous straws were RD6, RD10 and Kham Phai and non-glutinous straws were RD15, RD27 and Mali-105. All straws were collected from Chum Pae Rice Research Station in Khon Kaen. Straws were divided into four parts as stem, sheath, leave and spike, each of which weighed and quantitatively analyzed. The weight of each part of glutinous straw was similar, but the stem and sheath of non-glutinous straw were higher than those of leaves and spike. Crude protein, neutral-detergent, fiber (NDF) and acid-detergent, fiber (ADF) were not statistically different but the ash content of non-glutinous straw was higher than that of glutinous straw. Feeding trial was carried out using native growing cattle. Voluntary feed intake of non-glutinous straw was higher than that of glutinous straw being (82.2 g/kg W.75/d and 72.4 g/kg W.75/d respectively). The end-products of rumen fermentation resulting in higher as ammonia-nitrogen (NH3-N) and total volatile fatty acids (TVFA) in cattle fed on non-glutinous straw than those fed on-glutinous straw with the values of 3.5, 3.0 mg%; 67.3, 62.2 m mole/l, respectively.
