Bala, G. | Hosein, F.
During 1988-1990, 21 anthurium and 23 banana farms located throughout Trinidad were investigated for the presence of Radopholus similis. The nematode was found in 6 banana and 18 anthurium farms. 9 anthurium and 3 banana farms were placed in the range 26-100 % of farm area affected by the nematode. Dutch, Hawaiian and local anthurium, plantains, lacatan and Gros michel was found to be affected by the nematode. Populations as high as 1360 and 1560 nematodes per 10g. root were found for banana and anthurium respectively. Radopholus similis is considered to be of plant quarantine importance to Trinidad and recommendations for its eradication are presented.
