In the Commonwealth Caribbean agricultural education is offered at four levels, at the primary school level, in secondary schools, post-secondary, pre-university institutions and at The University of the West Indies. Argues that in all of these institutions the question of integrated rural development is not adequately addressed. Suggestions are made for providing agricultural education programmes which are geared towards enhancing integrated rural development. At the primary and secondary school level it is suggested that the emphasis of agriculture teaching should be on attitude development rather than the development of skills. At the pre-university institutions the teaching skills and agricultural technology in preparation for employment in agriculture should be augmented by a systems view of the rural community as well as of the farm-home unit and the university should provide the needed holistic approach to agricultural education and training for integrated rural development.
