A past student reflects on his university life and training

Explains the reasons for the author to join The University of the West Indies, his experiences in the Faculty of Agriculture and his proposed ideas to enhance the training now offered in that faculty. Says that his experiences were unsatisfactory and disappointing for a number of reasons. The author had slightly better experience as a postgraduate and in particular the course on Research Methodology. Suggests that his tenure at the university, particularly from the results of his post-graduate experience resulted in a more confident individual, endowed with the realization that his university career provided him with tools with which he can operate in the real world. The main suggestion to improve the system was to have a more relevant degree structure based on what the region wants from agriculture and the people who are going to make a contribution to agriculture. Increased contact between the university and the community should also be encouraged since results may be a better well-rounded agriculture graduate.
