A new approach for prevention of Black pod disease of cocoa
1991
Pettitt, T.R. | Sreenivasan, T.N.
Describes the testing of a novel approach to fungicide application. Water permeable fungicide impregnated collars were tied around cocoa tree trunks high in the pod bearing canopy. Rainwater flowing down the trunks washed the fungicide down the stems on to the pods where it was needed. At rates of active ingredient comparable to 1-2 sprays, 100 % control was obtained as compared with approximately 60 % losses from conventionally treated trees.
