1992
Kawisi, M. (Ministry of Lands, Agriculture and Water Development, Marondera (Zimbabwe). Horticultural Research Centre)
The paper states that like many other horticultural industries in Zimbabwe the protea industry has been developed by individuals using knowledge and cultivars brought in from other countries and modified by their own ideas, enthusiasm and experience. The paper gives highlights of a survey conducted by the Horticultural Research Centre to obtain basic information about the industry. Key aspects included the geographical distribution of farms, their soil types, elevation and rainfall, the level of experience of the growers, the cultivars grown and their advantages and disadvantages, fertilizer and irrigation practices, pest and disease problems and the growers perception of their main problems in production and marketing
