Chickpea (cv. Nabin) was tested in the silty clay loam soil at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) farm, Joydebpur during rabi seasons, 1989-90 and 1990-91 using different tillage implements with different methods of sowing and fertilizer placements under rainfed condition. BARI plough, in general, had better plant stand and crop growth, producing maximum grain yield. Method of sowing and fertilizer placement had no effect on yield. Root density was more with BARI plough than with country plough. However, BARI plough and power-tiller produced similar root densities. Maximum soil moisture depletion and water expense efficiency was not found significantly different for different methods of sowing and fertilizer placements in both the years.
