[Application of ultrasonography in the diagnosis of bovine musculo-skeletal disorders]

Besides classical orthopedic examination techniques including radiography and centesis of diseased synovial cavities, for the first time ultrasonography was applied in the examination of proximal bovine limb disorders in 18 bovine patients. The clinical and radiographic findings and the results of centesis were compared with the sonographic findings. Where only soft tissues and joints were affected, the sonographic findings provided more information than radiography. This new, complementary examination technique for limb disorders in cattle offers a number of advantages. Therefore, sonography is the method of choice for differentiating affections of the soft tissue in the limbs of cattle
