The flux of organic matter into the soil in the cereal fields
1994
Penu, P. (Estonian Agricultural Univ., Tartu (Estonia). Dept. of soil science)
In 1991-1992 the author studied after the harvesting of agricultural crops organic mass returned to soil, as well as the structure and the N P K content with barley and rye. Experimental area was established in western Saaremaa. Three different varieties (barley "Roland" (1); barley "Eero-80" (2) and rye "Vambo" (3)) were compared in this paper. Mean annual total net production of dry mass ranged between 253...517 g/m2 in 1991. As expected it was higher in the rye fields. Total organic matter was higher in 1991. Structure of organic matter was mainly the same in different crops. Weeds content in total dry mass ranged between 20...29, stubble 44...55 (barley) and 36...46 (rye). Roots content of total organic mass in the barley areas ranged between 24...29 and in the rye areas 34...38
