Potato controlled crossings: Applied technique of factors contributing in their success

Potato, a plant with many problems in flowering and seed development makes the breeder's work difficult in the beginning of a breeding programme. Techniques promoting flowering and seed production are discribed in this review. In addition this article describes: 1) flower morphology, 2) the mode of flowering and fertilization, 3) crossing technique and 4) factors affecting crossing success, in order to facilitate the breeders to apply the methods of controlled crossing.
