Beside forage and pasture grasses, the Research Institute of Irrigation (Szarvas, Hungary) has bred a number of the so-called MINITURF varieties for parks and gardens suitable for growing under the arid climatic conditions of Hungary. Among them, the following ones are recommended for the mulching of vineyards: the Poa pratensis ssp. media variety "Szarvas" the Festuca rubra var. commutata variety "Park", the F. ovina var. capitata variety "Favorit". All these varieties exhibit an excellent climatic resistance to both drought and frost
