Effect of saline water irrigation on the growth, yield, and yield components of corn (Zea mays L.) under semi-arid condition

The effects of irrigation with saline on the growth and yield of corn in the semi-arid land of Iran were determined. Basin irrigation was used which compared eight irrigation patterns in three stages of crop growth, namely: vegetative, reproductive and maturity stages. Irrigation by non-saline water affected favorably the vegetative and reproductive stages of corn. Tallest plants were those irrigated by non-saline water at least twice at the growing period. Ear diameter was significantly affected by interaction of salinity level and the irrigation patterns. Grain weight was favorably affected by non-saline irrigation water. Corn can tolerate the salinity of irrigation water up to 6 mmhos/cm
