Sustainable multiple cropping systems for the paddy lowland and upland in Korea developed and continue to perform well. Much of the research on the sustainable multiple cropping systems conducted were related to low input and maximum output, organic recycling, nutrient availability and environmental quality. The economic aspects of low-input and sustainable farming systems were done on a whole farm basis. The data were essential to know if low input sustainable multiple cropping systems are economically viable. The reasons for reduced crop yields during transition from high input to low-input double cropping systems were determined to shorten transition time without losses and risk. Plant breeders and agronomists were involved directly and/or indirectly with farmers in conducting the multiple cropping research. New crop culture techniques for weeds, insects and diseases control methods have been developed. The nutritional quality of the crops involved and the bioavailability of food nutrients for the crops grown in the multiple crop plus system trials were determined to monitor changes in nutritional quality including the vitamin, fiber, protein, fat and nitrogen free extract content for consumer's health. Improved technology transfer methods were also developed for the rapid transfer of technical information and practical methodology through the Rural Development Administration Organization and farmers network
