Nonconventional pelleting of ipil-ipil leaves (Leucaena leucocephala)
1994
Colobong, L.B. | Acosta, A.R.
There were two treatments used in this study namely: treatment one (T1) which uses 0 percent molasses or mainly pure ipil-ipil leaves and treatment 2 (T2) which uses 1 percent molasses or 0.02 kg of molasses mixed with 1.98 kg of fresh ipil-ipil leaves or the control. A two kg sample of ipil-ipil leaves was used for every trial in T1 and T2 kg sample of combined feed ingredients for T2. The speed of the pellet meal was set at 3 different speeds which as 100 rpm, 200 rpm, and 300 rpm in every treatment with 3 trials each speed. Results showed that T1 has a capacity of 9.91 kg/hr and 8.98 kg/hr for T2, the differences between two treatments were significant. There were significant differences between two treatments in terms of efficiency, and bulk density before and after drying of pellets. However, in power consumption, T1 consumed 0.72 kw for the whole operation while T2 has 0.70 kw, the difference between two treatments were significant. Likewise, T1 and T2 did not differ significantly in its moisture content (wet basis) and in the hardness of pellets produced
