Yumol, R.D. | Pedroso, J.P. | Ducanes, A.A.
The study was conducted at the farmers field at Barangay Ayala, Zamboanga City [Philippines]. Each entry was transplanted in three row 0.6 m by 5.0 m (3 sq.m.) area. Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) was used with varieties/selections as treatments replicated three times. Ninety seven varieties/selections were screened for resistance to Brown Spot (Helminthosporium oryzae). No significant infection was observed at growth stage (GS) 30. However, Bordagol (farmers variety) and three early maturing selections (PR23457-11, PR23372-28, PR23489-4) were significantly infected at GS45 with a rating of 5.0 (susceptible). All varieties/selections were moderately susceptible (3.0) to susceptible (5.0) to infection from booting to harvesting. The mean severity ratings of all varieties/selections were moderately susceptible to BS as compared to Bordagol. Likewise, the yields per hectare of sixteen varieties/selections were significantly different from Bordagol
