The corn hybrids Fundulea 365, Fundulea 376 registered in 1990, Vultur and Dacic registered in 1991 for South and West of Romania are the result of a breeding activity to increase the yielding ability, constancy of the yield under different climatic conditions and high quality. The new corn hybrids have been tested in 1988-1991 in South and West of Romania under irrigated and nonirrigated conditions. The new hybrids permitted to obtain remarkable results in comparison with the most spread hybrids Fundulea 378 and Pioneer 3747. Under nonirrigated conditions Vultur permitted to obtain an average increase of 12 percent of yield and 10 percent under irrigated conditions compared to Fundulea 320. The yielding ability of the semilate corn hybrids Fundulea 365, Fundulea 376 and Dacic was significantly higher than the checks Fundulea 378 and Pioneer 3747 under nonirrigated and irrigated conditions. The highest yield under natural conditions was obtained at Oradea with Dacic (22 percent) and Fundulea 376 at Lovrin (18 percent). The average increases of the yield for experimental years are very close for all new hybrids (12-14 percent). Under irrigated conditions the highest increases of yield was at Dobrogea Fundulea 376-(20 percent and at Caracal Dacic-(16 percent). The high quality hybrid Fundulea 365, having flint kernel produced the highest yield at Braila under irrigated conditions (15 percent). The new hybrids are resistant to root and stem lodging and to diseases produced by Fusarium species and Helminthosporium turcicum. The quality the kernels is high; the content of protein is higher 13 percent. The seed production is economically efficient, the yielding ability of the inbreeds is high.
