The influence of inoculation of maize with lactic acid bacteria on the quality of different silages prepared in the laboratory was evaluated. 4 different combinations of Lactobacillus plantarum 9S and 14S, Streptococcus faecalis STR and Pediococcus acidilacti PED sub(1) strains were used for the inoculation. 4 experimental groups and 1 control group (without treatment) of silages were prepared. Each silage group was prepared in 3 repetitions. pH value in experimental groups of silages ranged from 3.85 to 4.14, in the control group it was 3.80. Significant increases of acetic and propionic acids and decrease of lactic acids was noticed in the inoculated silages. Number of lactobacilli increased significantly only in 2 experimental groups. Number of yeasts decreased significantly only in the inoculated silages. Therefore the content of alcohol was significantly lower. Losses of matter were higher in experimental silages than in control silages. The chosen combinations of lactic acid bacteria inoculated into maize before ensilaging negatively influenced the quality of maize silage.
