Effect of stub size and branch number on vegetative growth of mango cv. Nam Dok Mai
1991
Eakhathai Tunpoon
Unpruned, 5 years old, mango cv. Nam Dok Mai trees were cut down to a height of 120 cm. above ground. In order to study the new growth, branches were selected and categorized in the control (sprouting naturally), 1, 2, 3 and 4 branches per stub. Two sizes of stub, small (4.1-5.0 cm. in diameter) and large (5.1-6.0 cm.), were used in this experiment. Branch diameter was measured monthly to the fourteenth month. Larger stub produced greater average branch diameter. At the end of fourteenth month, the stub with 3 branches obtained the largest branch diameters on both stub sizes while the 4 branches had the smallest ones. No statistical differences was observed on the 1 and 2-branches.
