Project aims to develop a tissue culture technology for the rapid multiplication of high yield cashew clones (Anacardium occidentale L.). Due to the recalcitrant nature of cashew trees, it is difficult to propagate by traditional methods. This difficulty could be overcome by inducing juvenility through micro-grafting from selected mother plants to juvenile rootstocks. The works are in good progress as planned. Meristems from the induced scions were active in growth and multiplication. Roots could be induced and the plantlets were acclimatized before planting out with certain level of success.
