Effect of mepiquat chloride preharvest spray on vase-life of chrysanthemum
1988
Thanee Kiatpipattanakul
Chrysanthemum plants (cv. Kao Kaset and Luang Kaset) were daily sprayed with mepiquat chloride at 25 ppm for 6 times and at 50 ppm for 4 times before harvest. Cut chrysanthemums were pulsed in 200 ppm Physan-20 + 5 % sucrose before holding in tap water at room temperature (27 deg.celsius and 78 % RH.) The results showed that "Kao Kaset" chrysanthemums treated with 25 ppm mepiquat chloride for 6 times and pulsed in 200 ppm Physan-20 + 5 % sucrose had the longest vase life of 12.87 days but they had no significant difference from other treatment. Kao-Kaset chrysanthemums treated with 50 ppm mepiquat chloride for 4 times had most TNC but they had no significant difference from other treatments. "Luang Kaset" chrysanthemum treated with 50 ppm mepiquat chloride for 4 times and no pulsing had longest vase life of 12.78 days which had highly significant difference from other treatment. They also had the most general quality and TNC which were significantly different from chrysanthemums treated with 25 ppm mepiquat chloride for 6 times and the control.
