Effects of number of fungicide application on groundnut yield

Efficacy of different number of fungicide sprays in controlling leaf spots and rust was evaluated on Tainan 9 groundnut at Chiang Mai University during July to November 1985. Mancozeb (360 g/rai/application) and chlorothalonil 270 g/rai/application were two selected fungicides used in the experiment. The plants were sprayed 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 times at 2 weeks interval starting at 10, 8, 6, 4 and 2 weeks after the emergence respectively. Mancozeb and chlorothalonil were equally effective in controlling the diseases when applied 4 or 5 times throughout the season. The highest seed yield of 350.5 and 351.0 kg/rai were obtained with 4 and 5 applications respectively. Two and three applications gave a moderate level of protection resulting in yield of 301 and 315.9 kg/rai when 1 and 0 application yield only 248.5 kg/rai respectively. The yield increase in response to the number of fungicide spray was due to a marked increase in number of pods/hill, 100 seed weight and shelling percentage.
