[Important maize disease in Yugoslavia]

Maize diseases reduce the yield and quality of the grain. World reduction in grain production from diseases is estimated to average 9.4 (Anon. 1986). The most important maize diseases in Yugoslavia are: Fusarium graminearum Schw., Fusarium moniliforme Sheld., Macrophomina phaseoli (Maubl.) Ashby., Helminthosporium turcicum Pass., Helminthosporium carbonum Ullstrup., Ustilago maydis (D.C.) Corda, Kabatiella zeae Nar. and Harats. and Maize Dwarf Mosaic Virus (MDMV). Disease resistant or highly tolerant are the most important and efficient means of maize disease control.
