Obtained results show that the number of soil pests for majority orders are under their critical values (Elateridae 1.9/square m, Scarabaeidae 0.9/square m, Bibionidae 1.0/square m) when maize is grown as a monoculture (during dry years). Wheat as a preceding crop, is not favourable from the aspect of soil pests (Elateridae 13.5/square m), while soybean is (Elateridae 2.5/square m). The order Agriotes within the family Elateridae is absolutely dominant. Effects of mineral nutrition on the number of soil pests were not significant. The appropriate crop rotation, i.e. the proper choice of the preceding crops, could have significant effects on decreasing the damage of soil pests in maize production.
