Mouth size of Pabda (Ompoak pabda) and Gulsha (Mystus golia) larvae which had absorbed egg yolk and just started to take natural live food were measured, and the relationship of mouth size with total length of fish as well as with food size preference were determined. A linear relationship was found to exist between mouth size and total length of fish. The mouth size exhibited a close relationship to the size of their natural foods, viz., gulsha having small mouth has been found to ingest only the rotifers while pabda having relatively big mouth size were found to take most of the zooplanktons studied at the commencement of feeding.
