Effect of genotype and media in rice anther culture
1992
Mostafa, M.G. | Evans, G.M. | Hoque, M.S.
Anthers of two F2 families (A and B) and their parents were cultured in two culture media (N6-Y1 and modified P2). Family A responded much better than family B in callus productivity. The three parents (X,Y and Z) showed different level of callus productivity with X being much more responsive than others. Broad sense heritability estimates of family A in N6-Y1 medium was very high (93%) suggesting very few genes involved in controlling callus production. Mean F2 value for family A in N6-Y1 medium was near to the higher parent value indicates dominance effect. N6-Y1 was found to be superior than modified P2 medium for the tested materials. Plant regeneration frequency was found higher in family A than B. The frequency of green plants were observed higher than albino from regenerated plants
