An aseasonal impala birth in Botswana [Aepyceros melampus]
1996
Ritter, R.C. (Oxford Univ. (UK). Dept. of Zoology) | Bednekoff, P.A.
A single impala was born 5 months out of season in Nxai Pan National Park, Botswana and survived for at least 10 months during a low rainfall year. Movement patterns of the juvenile were similar to those of adult females in other herds. This unusual instance demonstrates that newborn impala are capable of surviving under dry conditions and as alone juveniles where natural predators occur.
