The final paper in this series deals with the above subgenera of Ptychotrema, each of which is succintly characterized. Fourteen species of Ptychotrema s.s. are treated in detail, including a new species, P. tanganyikae, from the western shores of Lake Tanganyika (Zaire). The taxon Adjua is founded on characters of the juvenile shell and therefore of a doubtful nature; two species are included in Adjua. Excisa, on the other hand, is fairly well circumscribed and encompassed two species, which also applies to Sphinctostrema. Mirellia, Nsendwea and Ptychoon are all monotypic taxa. Holotypes of P. (P.) tanganyikae and P. (Nsendwea) nobrei are figured; material from the type localities of P. (Adjua) assiniense, P. (A.) breve and P. (Mirellia) prodigiosum is also depicted. Discussions on the status and biogeography of the various genera accompanied by maps conclude this series, together with a complete series of references and an index of streptaxid names used in all three parts.
