Chinese cabbage, a crop highly susceptible to blackleg caused by Phoma lingam (teleomorph: Leptosphaeria maculans)
1996
Corbaz, R. (Station federale de recherches en production vegetale de Changins, Nyon (Switzerland))
Severe damages on Chinese cabbages were recorded in Switzerland in 1994. They were due to systemic infection by Phoma lingam. The most distinctive symptoms were a greyish discolouration of foliar ribs due to the presence of mycelium in vessels, which made the cabbages unmarketable. All isolates of P. lingam were of B-type (avirulent type). The efficacy of fungicides was evaluated on inoculated Chinese cabbages in greenhouse experiments. Best control of Phoma leaf spots was obtained with difenoconazole, metconazole, prochloraz, and tebuconazole
