Wild animals trichinellosis in Estonia

In 1992-1994 of 184 wild animals examined 10 were infected with trichinellosis (5,4 %). In Veterinary Faculty all in all 1435 wild animals of 15 species have been examined for trichinellosis. Besides the cats, the domestic pigs and the animals of fur-bearing farms have been investigated. Trichinellosis has been diagnosed in 9 species of wild animals (invasion extensity 5,4-6,1 % in different years) and two tramp cats in 12 rural districts. The important reservoir of Trichinella larvae invasion is racoon dogs (Nyctereutes procyonoides). Brown rats (Rattus norvegicus) and tramp cats invasion of 15 species have been examined for trichinellosis
