The effect of feed dry matter crude protein and energy content on blood acid-base status
1995
Kadarik, K. (Estonian Agricultural Univ., Tartu (Estonia). Faculty of Veterinary Science)
The feeding level and blood acid-base status of 504 Estonian Black and White Breed and 197 Estonian Red Breed cows was examined in production conditions during the over-wintering period. Blood samples were taken before the morning feeding. The inadequacy of the feed dry matter protein content caused a hypochloremic alkalosis shift in blood. There were no reliable correlations between the feed dry matter energy content and indicators of blood acid-base status caused by the decrease of blood plasa chlorine content and the gap of cation and anions
