Zooplankton investigation was carried out in the warm core (86B) which had appeared since 1986, on the cruise of R/V Syoyo-Maru (Fisheries Agency) in October 1987. Vertical tows of a eight pair of ROSETT nets (0.35 mm mesh openings) from 1000m depth to the surface were made at 6 stations. Zooplankton was abundantin 0-100m layer of the warm core edge as well as Oyashio water, however, it was less abundant in the warm core. Copepods were predominant in the whole water columns of each station. A total of 103 species was identified from the present study. Among copepods, Metridia pacifica was the most abundant in all layer of each station and Clausocalanus arcuicornis and Paracalanus parvus were also dominant in all station. Other than copepods, chaetognaths, ostracods, appendicularians and salps were major zooplankton groups in this area. Salps, in particular, were mainly observed in the surface layer of the warm core
