Coconut-based farming systems (CBFS) was a major program of the Coconut R and D [Research and Development] Committee of the College of Agriculture, UP Los Banos (CA-UPLB). The Farming Systems and Soil Resources Institutes (FSSRI) as the lead agency, integrated, analyzed, and packaged technology or research results coming from other UPLB units and other agencies. These technologies were field-tested or verified mostly by other government organizations (GOs), nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), or directly by farmers' organizations. Ongoing and completed R and D activities related to CBFS at UPLB which started in the late 60s up to the present were discussed. Presented were early works on CBFS conducted by students of different UPLB units as part of their theses until the creation of FSSRI in the early 80s. Research and development thrusts of CBFS at UPLB were likewise presented
