Yield response of snapbean and cabbage to pure organic fertilization
1994
Colting, R.D. (Benguet State Univ., La Trinidad, Benguet (Philippines))
A field experiment was conducted at the Benguet State University, La Trinidad, Benguet [Philippines] to determine: a.) the yield response of snap beans and cabbage when fertilized with pure chicken dung; and b.) the effect of organic fertilization on soil properties. Results show that the green pod yield of pole beans and bush beans from plots applied with pure chicken dung (8 tons/ha) was comparable to the yield when inorganic fertilizers were used. A similar trend was observed in the yield and solidity of cabbage. The application of organic fertilizer also affected favorable changes in soil properties. In general, the pH and organic matter content of the soil increased after harvesting of the test plants. These findings indicate that organic farming allows the production of crops while enhancing soil productivity
