Sweetpotato (cv PSBSp 15) was intercropped with glutinous corn (cv Lagkitan) at planting. The treatments used were as follows: A-pure corn, B-pure sweetpotato, and C-corn + sweetpotato. The spacing for A was 100 cm x 37.5 cm with 2 seedlings/hill; for B, 100 cm x 25 cm with one cutting/hill; and C, 100 cm x 50 cm with 2 cuttings or seedlings per hill planted in the same row. Complete fertilizer (14-14-14) was applied on a per hill basis 10 days after planting (DAP) for both crops at 9 g/plant. This is equivalent to about 67, 50, and 101 kg/ha N-P3O6-K3O for treatments A, B, and C, respectively. Corn was harvested 60 DAP and sweetpotato 120 DAP. The intercropped corn had yield of 71.8 percent of the pure corn (2.55 t/ha vs 3.55) but this difference was not significant. The intercropped sweetpotato had yield of 72.7 percent of the pure sweetpotato (11.4 t/ha vs. 15.6) and this difference was highly significant. The land equivalent ratio (LER) of the intercropping treatment was 1.44
