The aim of the investigations was to determine the effect of the leaf area index (LAI) on the spectral changes in solar irradiance in greenhouse cucumber. Moreover the basic optical properties (reflectance, transmittance, and absorptance) of cucumber leaves were determined The obtained results are demonstrated that leaves of higher plants are structurally and functionally well disposed to absorption of solar energy, especially in the physiologically important range of photosynthetically active radiation (400-700 nm, PAR) and to reflection and transmission of irradiation of preventive character, mainly in the near infrared region (700-1100 nm)
