Karyotype evolution of the established RES (Ren Embryonis Suis) cell line

RES cell line was cultured on the nutrient medium containing 90 percent Hanks' solution, 10 percent calf serum, penicilin (100 units/ml), dihydrostreptomycin (100 microg/ml). Eventhough the established cell line preserves a diploid chromosome complement for a long time, it is a limited period and the cell line becomes spontaneously a heteroploid population. It may be possible that hypodiploid cells have a growth power only in heterogenous cell population while a uniform hypodiploidy may decrease the dynamics of a cell population, although the whole information of this species is present in the haploid status
