The characteristic of more prospective and widely-distributed red currant varieties according to the content of soluble solids is given. The variability of this index in different years is found out. The possibility of breeding for high content of soluble solids in progeny of species samples of R. atropurpureum, R. hispidulum, R. Mejri is shown. The best individual seedlings are singled out
