The relationship between morphological characteristics of nucleoli and the body weight at different stages of ontogenesis was studied in two Cyprinidae species: carp (Cyprinus capio) and grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella). In year-old C. idella, a hightly positive correlation was observed between the number of nucleoli per cell and the body weight. During the subsequent months, this correlation becomes weaker and disappears when fish become sexually mature. In adult fish, the relationship between nucleoli-related parameters and the body weight can differ, depending on the average number of nucleoli per cell (in C. idella) of the female's age (in C. carpio)
