1991

Seed development and seed storability of water convolvulus were studied at Kasetsart University, Bangkhen Campus during August, 1988 to September, 1990. Water convolvulus seed reached its physiological maturity at 33 days after anthesis (DAA) with 34 % of germination and the highest quantity of food reserves. Hard seed was developed at 41 DAA with the accumulation of cutin, suberin and lignin in cuticle and palisade layers in the integument. The optimal harvesting time was between 41-61 DAA with seed moisture content 10-13 %, 75 % germination and 3-12.5 % of hard seeds. For commercial storage, seed could be kept upto 18 months with high vigor and germination percentages when stored at 10-20 deg C with 6-8 % seed moisture content and packed in sealed polyethylene or aluminum foil bags.
