Grasses of the genus Digitaria were wide distributed throughout the country. Plants were annuals or perennials. Culms erect, as cending or creeping. Leaves linear-landcolate, acute, blade and sheath glabrous or sparsely pilose. Ligules membranous, truncate, crose. Inflorescences terminal, solitary, with 2-12 spike-like racemes or more, digitate, subdigitate or paniculate. Rachises triquetrous or flattened and winged, margins serrate or smooth, bearing spikelets on one side. Spikelets single binat or in grouplets of 3-4, on unequal pedicels. Pedicels triquetrous or terete, serrate or smooth. Abscission of pedicels truncate, cupuliform or discoid. Lower glume minute or absent. Upper glume always present, much shorter than to as long as the spikelet, membranous, nerveless or 1-5 nerved. A spikelet composed of two florets. The lower one neutral; sterile lemma usually as long as the spikelet or slightly shorter, 5-7 nerved membranous, glabrous or pubescent; palea usually present as a small deloid scale. The upper floret hermaphrodite; lemma and palea as long as the sterile lemma or slightly longer, chartaceous with hyaline or pale margins, smooth to minutely granulate; becoming variously coloured; lodicules 2, cuneate, flat and hyaline; stamen 3, styles 2, shortly united at base; stigmas plumose; superiorovary. Grain oblong to elliptie, white colour.
