Improving the efficiency of sheep production in Tobago
1992
Robertson, N.
The small ruminant subsector is dominated by small scale operators where production systems may not be always productive or environmentally sound. In order to identify the constraints, a survey of the industry was conducted. The farming systems were characterized and a small group of farmers selected for dynamic diagnosis. The base data describing the initial situation of the farmers provided the bench-mark by which their subsequent performance could be measured. Reports on the survey and the approach which is being used to effect improvements in the small ruminant subsector in Tobago. Deals with issues which hamper sustainability of the small ruminant subsector. These issues generally relate to the farmers' socioeconomic situation, the physical constraints to production and the farmers' attitude to risk.
