Serological examinations in cows from Vojvodina (Yugoslavia) have shown the presence of Leptospira hardjo infections mainly on farms. Isolation of leptospiras is complicated and lengthy and is particularly characteristic for leptospiras in the serogroup Hebdomadis, which includes Leptospira hardjo. Leptospira hardjo isolated from urine of seropositive cows was cultured on 4 different nutrient culture media and by biological experiments was performed on guinea pigs. The isolation of Leptospira hardjo was performed by isolation on the EMJH medium with addition of 5-fluorouracil for 46 or 66 of seropositive cows. Leptospira hardjo was not isolated on the other media in any case. While determining the presence of Leptospira hardjo in urine samples by use of guinea pigs, was proved the presence of leptospiras in 33.3 of examined urine.
